That moment when you’re scrolling through tumblr and seeing all your favorite artists post amazing pictures and you’re really inspired but can’t draw at the moment.

I literally just got accused of posting racist Pokemon art. I run a blog for posting Pokemon pictures, AlternativePokemonArt, and one of my followers messaged me to complain about a picture I posted where a Pokemon was wearing traditional Japanese clothing. She PMed me to say that the picture had upset her badly, that it was extremely racist against Japanese culture, that it was cultural appropriation, and that I need to refrain from posting such things in the future, because I’m contributing to racist ideology. Except here’s the thing: the girl who messaged me was white, and the woman who drew the picture is Japanese. How are you going to try and tell people how they are and aren’t allowed to depict their own culture in art?
Here’s the picture she was complaining about:
And here’s the URL, if you can’t see the picture for some reason:

Snow: Mixing social justice with pokemon is just the worst.
Good god. And even if the artist wasn’t Japanese, the picture shows clothes being worn correctly and not taken out of context (context being worn as clothes in this case) so even then it wouldn’t be appropiation.
Not to mention the fact that Pokemon is Japanese made. More than once, the anime itself has made very Japanese references.

How can one appropriate one’s own culture, I wonder?
doodley doo dee doo. Dunno what I managed to do to the background transparency, whoops.
I miss Nils.
